Crafted Through Connection
A Kiawah Island Home Built with Southern Lumber Materials
At Southern Lumber and Millwork, we believe great homes start with great relationships. That belief is reflected beautifully in this Kiawah Island renovation, where thoughtful design, quality materials, and trusted partnerships came together to refresh and expand a beloved coastal cottage.
This project was a nine-month collaboration between The Hartman Group, Island Architects, and Southern Lumber and Millwork. The result is a home that feels light, welcoming, and perfectly suited for Lowcountry living.
Materials That Set the Tone
From the first glance inside, the craftsmanship stands out. Southern Lumber supplied a wide range of architectural materials that bring warmth and continuity throughout the home, blending the original character with newly added spaces.
In the primary suite, custom handcrafted box beams add depth and visual interest to the ceiling while keeping the space relaxed and inviting. These beams were carefully milled to complement the scale of the room and enhance its architectural charm.
Throughout the home, custom trim and moulding milled by Southern Lumber create a consistent look that ties each room together. The profiles feel classic and timeless, reinforcing the cottage style while adding a refined finish.
Coastal Details Made to Last
Texture plays an important role in the design. Shiplap supplied by Southern Lumber lines areas like the staircase and powder room, adding a subtle coastal feel without overpowering the space. Classic wainscoting, also milled in-house, brings depth and elegance to select rooms and helps balance old and new elements throughout the home.
These details are more than decorative. They reflect Southern Lumber’s ability to provide custom millwork solutions that fit both the vision of the design team and the demands of coastal construction.
Windows and Doors for the Lowcountry
Performance mattered just as much as appearance. Andersen 400 Series windows, supplied by Southern Lumber, fill the home with natural light while offering durability and energy efficiency designed for coastal environments. They brighten each space and provide peace of mind when it comes to standing up to the elements.
Solid core interior Doors were used throughout the home, adding strength, sound control, and
apremium feel that you notice in everyday living.
A Partner You Can Count On
For builder Justin Hartman, working with Southern Lumber means confidence at every stage of the project. From clear communication to reliable lead times, having the right materials on site keeps everything running smoothly. In many cases, materials were delivered within 24 hours, allowing the team to stay focused on building rather than on logistics.
When questions come up or custom millwork is needed, Southern Lumber delivers solutions quickly and honestly, acting as an extension of the builder’s team.
Built on Trust and Finished with Craftsmanship
This Kiawah Island renovation shows how thoughtful building material selection and trusted partnerships can shape a home that feels both beautiful and functional. From custom millwork and architectural details to windows and doors designed for coastal performance, Southern Lumber and Millwork played a key role in bringing this project to life.
When builders and designers do not have to worry about materials, they are free to focus on creating spaces that truly feel like home.
